You love drawing and illustrating, but what about making a messy appearance? So I will guide you how you can make your own brushes or stamps effects in the Photoshop. You’ll find stamp effects cool and interesting. You will see how it is easy to do and hope you are excited.

There are two ways to make brushes or stamps in Photoshop. I will show you with step by step instructions by guiding two methods, but these two of them are nearly the same - I am sure you won't be confused about it.

Step 1 : Please get a new file. Grab custom brush tool from the toolbox. You can see different shapes provided by Photoshop on the tool option bar of customer brush tool. It’s up to you and you’ve got several to choose from. Why don’t we make a butterfly stamp hum ?

Step 2 : Draw it with just click-and-drag. We can now see the butterfly layer. Then we’ll convert it from vector layer to pixel layer by choosing any pixel tool such as burn tool or blur too, etc. Then click on the image - make sure to choose the butterfly layer on layer palette.

Step 3 : Then we’ll delete the background to make it look transparent. Then use the crop tool to crop off the lines to have a butterfly shape.

Step 4 : Then by choosing define brush set under Edit menu, put your brush name and you now have a butterfly stamp.

Step 5 : Let’s try if our new stamp is working. Right click on brush tool from toolbox. We can see the stamps we’ve collected, the butterfly stamp we just created. Let’s try to apply it on canvas.

Step 1 : After that, we’ll see how we can turn the subject from the photo into a stamp. We can also make a stamp out of a photo here.

Step 2 : Select with the selection tool like eg. Polygonal Lasso tool from tool box. When you get a selection of the bird, Copy and Paste it in the new file.

Step 3 : We’ll follow the same steps as we made our butterfly tool.
In the layer palette, we will delete the background to make it look transparent. Then use the crop tool to crop off the lines to have a bird shape alone.

Step 4 : Then by choosing define brush set under Edit menu, put a new brush name and save. You now have a bird stamp.

Step 5 : Let’s try applying it as well.

You can see the example of my digital mixed media artwork that I used a lot of stamps (Photoshop brushes) here. Messy love! Hope you all enjoyed learning.
