I have been painting painting painting. I am taking Wyanne's Paint Free art class as I told you in the previous post. I have reached week two assignment, the second 30 minutes I just painted (left) and I felt really happy. When I was little girl, I played with the coconut tree branches in front yard. I tried to catch up the playful mood, colors and weather in this painting.
I just cannot stop painting mindlessly. I just put the colors on the palette what I like the most. And started to paint it with different brush stokes. Then my imagination lovely house was suddenly came into my mind... I also didn't expect to get the result of flowers like textures surrounding the house. I learned to paint a little more with my heart. Really happy with it!
I still keep painting. This is the latest one I did yesterday. I trust in myself more and more doing these exercises and moving mindlessly. I used all available brushes I have.. even my fingers! I feel more friendly with the colours and I like to use bright and strong colours. I named it "BeBrave", this process is really exciting!

Well I am now taking Wyanne's Paint Free art class and I'm really enjoy this. The above painting was taken from her week 2 assignment, painted it for 30 minutes. I tried not to come over any thoughts to my brain while painting this. Ah, just need to focus on the flow of strokes and the painting process. Sometimes my imagination of the beach where I really want to go was came and pop up to my mind. But I just need to concentrate on the flow of my hand!! "Don't think about any of it" that's what i told myself. When I was doing this, I feel like I was watching myself. The hands were moving automatically on the canvas without thinking. This was so much FUN!!! After 30 minutes times up, I walked away from the desk, I didn't go back and add to the painting.
The next day, I get back to look at my work again. Oh I don't like the colors. I thought I was creating the beach! But now I see the river, a big mountain, flowers and clouds in the painting. My dear husband's perspective is a bit different of mine. He sees the three guys are boating, and the two guys wearing the blue hats.
I really enjoyed the process. And I realized that finding my own voice is not too difficult. I will definitely paint like this and let myself free again.

And I am happy to show you my new mixed media work! The cat in the painting is my neighbor, he is living in front of our flat. He is really fat and round like a balloon, so my husband and me call him Lone Lone. He sleeps in his little garden under the sunlight as always. I am enjoying watching him because he seems very peaceful to me and make me smile :) So I put him into my painting!
The whole painting is very colorful but also the girl's skin and the lazy cat is in black and white (gray scale). I am really enjoy painting portrait in black and white and adding tone details on the face. They are getting along well with the messy background. I have always wanted to be a doll artist. You may notice that all my characters have a doll like impression. You see, I take inspiration from those pretty dolls for my illustrations.
In these few years, I have been involved in other projects for many reasons and could not focus on doll making. Fortunately, I could now head myself in the right direction of becoming a doll artist. So I am broadening my horizons into doll making from my original base of digital art and mixed media.
I am yet to learn about sculpting techniques, but I managed to get a sculpture with the help of a friend.
It's from Mandalay. You might have heard of its name from a poem like 'Road to Mandalay' or the Mandalay Bay Hotel in the USA. The place I am talking about is the origin. It was an imperial capital before Myanmar falls under colonial rule. It still has a thriving art scene. And I am grateful to receive this wooden sculpture from a friend ( a puppeteer who has his own theater) based in Mandalay.
Teak is the best hardwood and Burma Teak is arguably the best. And I am lucky to get my sculpture made with teak. Myanmar (Burma) still has some ample supply of teak so I have been fortunate.
It's height is 4.5 inches and width is 2.5 inches. I did the painting on the sculpture and I am quite pleased with the final look ;) I can now look forward to future doll faces and am really excited. For my own dolls, instead of teak or hardwood, I intend to work on polymer clay and/or air dry clay.
Hmm, I have turned 26 today on February 12. :D My hubby and I managed to travel to a town called Twantay which is famous for its ceramics and clay products. The clay that's produced in Twaytay is for pots and vases so I think they might not be directly used in my future dolls.
On my birthday I reflected on many good things I have received so far. I am pleased with the artworks I have created so far, having a kind hubby and supportive friends such as yourself.
With these positive energy, I look forward to future adventures and challenges.

I've joined a new club on DeviantArt.com which is only for children illustrators. I managed to play it with Photoshop for this monthly topic "Night Creatures" [link].
It's getting into the autumn spirit! My favorite colour, Halloween is around the corner and I feel like a bit kinda spooky but the colour of leaves from my surroundings will not going to change. Mr. Owl has a cute spouting face that is looking at the girl and I also love the way she is just trying to catch the fireflies no matter what... Sometimes I love to illustrate my mini girls and owls because it's fun and let me have some more freedom. I tried to mix some textures to get an interesting messy mixed media style. I was working to make smoke and splash effects on the background of my latest oil painting after experimenting initially on paper. (You can read about it the previous post).
I would like to share with you a bit more about the beginning process of this painting before explaining how to make these effects. But this is not a tutorial though.
Firstly I sketched the image lightly in pencil directly on the gesso applied canvas and I chose the colour theme that are harmonious with the girl’s skin tone, hair colour and clothing before mixing paints.
I mixed the main background colour first, and then consider painting of it that are slightly lighter and darker than the base colour. I painted the first layer of the background to cover the canvas entirely from start to finish while the paint is wet to paint all at once.
I started to paint the girl’s skin, hair and clothes and then applied the second layer of the background after the base was dry. I allowed second and third layer to dry again before adding the next to make textures onto the background...
I have left the painting untouched for 3 whole days for the surface to dry completely. I used acrylic black to make the smoke effect on the background by using a little paint roller. Then I’ve made white acrylic mixed with water and splashed on the canvas using a tooth brush to get blurry and whimsy style. I also have used plenty of tissue papers to rub the surface. Here you will see in the image (right) and (below) how it shows.
I will make a post on the final finishing process of the painting when it is complete. I hope you like it. :-)

Yesterday, I was playing on this tiny mixed media work which is dark, dirty, messy and mysterious. She's "The Gate Guardian" (left), size of the work is 8.2 x 11.6 inches (A4).
It included different forms of medium: ink, colour pencils, crayons and acrylics. When I’ve done the sketch, I added white and black into the water pallet to create the dirty grey colour. A touch of brown paint was included too. And I’ve tried to paint to get an effect that’s similar to the flowing of water, smoke and splash effects on the background.
Then you can see that I painted her face and skin with watercolour pencils, mixed with white acrylic paint and afterwards more watercolour pencils applied after the base was dry. The foreground is richer and thicker in textures compare to the background. It was painted with acrylic to give a poster style look.
The whole painting has completed with lots of black and white paint splatters, to give a dirty look. The finishing touches were done with gloss varnish. The colours are vivid and gorgeous! The paper is not a typical water colour paper.
Well,, I was experimenting on this mixed media project. I wanted to apply the effects on the paper first before I do it on the canvas because currently I'm working with the oil painting and I hope to use these smoke and splash effects on the background of my new painting.

Here,,, I almost forgot to share you another experimented mixed media work I've created which is called Miss Muddy (above). She also has a dark theme, dirty and messy style look similar with The Gate Guardian.

I want to share some great news. Both my handmade Fish Jar and Black Cat Jewellery Box were sold today. I seriously did not expect those two to be sold as I made them solely for fun. They were almost dusty by the time they found their new owner since they were made pretty long time ago.
One day a friend named Milon visited my online gallery and asked me in details of literally all my works. Then she said “Not only I like your arts, I also love their background stories”then she continued “I especially love the crafts because each of them tells a very interesting story.”And she bought those two!Thanks so much for your support Milon!

Background Story
I really wanted to keep some fishes with a fish tank but the landlord could not tolerate any pets so instead of any real fish I made my own little fish and her habitat: the fish jar.
It’s also coincidental that my hubby nick named me as “fishie” while his nick being “chubby cat”. Also during that time when I made that fish jar I was staying indoors most of the time so that fish jar more or less portrayed my life for that particular period too.

Materials & How to
Handmade paper box, black and white acrylic colours, ink, sequences, and a key. Hard paper, more like cardboard paper was used to make a box. Then I used acrylic ink to paint black and white colours to the box. A cat and a flower were drawn with ink and a tiny stone was glued to top of the box. Then the exteriors of the box were repainted with thick layers of black ink to give an embolden feel. Handmade paper box, black and white acrylic colours, ink, sequences, and a key.
Do you know the story behind the box?? Some of you might be able to predict when you see a picture of the cat. Also because this is very similar to the painting named “Childhood Story”. Please have a look at Childhood Story by following this link.
You know sometimes I miss that old dark cat which used to visit our compound and I can always remember that cat. If my brain represents the box, that cat can then be portrayed as my part of my memory together with the garden I can remember which in turn is represented by the flower. So when I open the box I can then revisit my memories and visually remember that cat with the past surroundings. To do that I use the key to unlock my memories.

I am putting this work on a blog as I have received inquiries mails and on gtalk these weeks.
This picture is still under progress for a friend of mine.
The story behind my work is to highlight the problems faced by broken or dysfunctional families and feelings that arise as consequences. I am currently working on the character to have more distinct features and striking tones. As you all know, almost all of my characters have "doll like" features. The character, he is wating to become a doll. And I am working on his face and hair style to be looks like a friend of mine who has broken family. I also wanted to describe his own feelings and the story of an abandoned child.
