Lith film was the secret ingredient in many of the most spectacular darkrooms effects. In this tutorial, the skills you will learn how to create moody, high-contrast mono masterpieces using Photoshop, including how to control the results so you get the high-contrast look without losing every bit of detail from midtones.
You will need Photoshop full version or Elements and it will take only 5 minutes.

Step1: Choose the Desaturate from the Image menu > Adjustments. The image will lose the colour value and turn to black and white.
Step2: The next step is to add a Levels Adjustment Layer by going to Layer > NewAdjustmentLayer > Levels. Move the black arrow to the left, and the white arrow to the right, directly under the histogram graph. Using a setting of around 60 makes the picture darker, increase the contrast and makes large areas of the image is nearly pure black. You can see the effect from beginning to take shape.

Step3: The background is now made up of sections of black, but some grey areas are distracting. Select the background layer and use the Clone stamp with a size of copy areas of black and place them over the grey sections. Hold down Alt key from keyboard and click to sample an area, then release Alt key and click-and-drag on the part you want to change.
Step4: The last step in the process is to add more contrast to the picture. Using Unsharp Mask filter, you can increase the contrast of hairy lines and edges. Go to Filter > Sharpen > Unsharp Mask and use setting of around 150%, 0.6 pixels and 3 levels. Click OK to confirm the changes.
This is the final look of old viking man! Have fun!
