Etsy Selling Tips

Hello everyone,

I saw this thread and thought I would start a discussion on Etsy selling tips, if anyone has any>? I've sold some stuff on etsy but never to a degree that makes it worth it. My friend told me to add my items slowly each day so that my newly added items show up on the main browsing page more often. That was pretty great advice. Also what are good ways to advertise your etsy store? I have loads of handicrafts and creations waiting to find a loving home. I cant wait to share and see all of your creations as well! What about a craft trading forum where we can trade and share our creations? hmm,

Etsy has changed a lot over the past few months. There use to be 'Showcases' where you could purchase a spot and be seen by lots of etsy visitors. They have since done away with that. Your best bet is to make 'Treasuries'. Every hour Etsy picks a Treasury to put on the homepage. That is a good way to be seen. You can also 'Relist' your items often. This will help keep them popping up when people search. Also make sure to 'Tag' your items. Tagging helps people find your items on etsy. I think they allow 10 tags. USE THEM ALL!!! If you can't think of anymore tags to add, pick colors in the piece, or tags such as gift, her, him...blah blah blah. Just make sure to use all the allotted space for tags.

People say there are a lot of ways to do but I could not give effort for that much. Twitter works great I use it to promote my art. I got emails personally from that customers. And also one of my friends from Etsy suggests me when you go to the mall and try on clothes, and put a few cards in the jeans or purses. Sounds funny lol

Someone on another forum suggested having a link to your store as your email signature. So you will received an offer for wholesale.

I had never thought of twitter and facebook, I think I will go and check that out now.

@Fumiko : You have a plenty of cute crafts. I would love to trade art too.. What do you think of starting a group for swapping art?

Yes, I also have an etsy shop. I did pretty good, when I started out, but now have maybe one sale a month.

I do notice, that the big sellers are refreshing items a lot. I mean a lot, some refresh about 30 times a day. Some refresh one item every 30 min to always be in the first few pages, when someone does a search. I tried it - well not every 30 min - but I did try to refresh about 20 items a day for a couple of days, I got lots of likes and got into many treasuries, but no sales. I do think it is very important to bring traffic from the outside to your store. I do have my etsy link in my email signature, fb, blog, my husband twitters about it sometimes, i sometimes add a page on stumbleupon... That results in many likes but no sales. I don't know, what that is all about.

I love the idea of putting cards in jeans pockets, I think it is great! And I will do that, mostly for the fun of it. What I have been doing with my etsy store mostly is use it as a portfolio to get my art into local stores and sell on consignment. Stores love to see, that you have a store online. So that works pretty good.

I was also thinking about making stickers and handing them out and sticking them all over town, street artist style, but I'd rather hand them out. It's a fairly inexpensive way of advertising and who doesn't love a free sticker. - So that is next on my list. I am also looking into making fridge magnets and buttons, but from what I have seen so far, the sticker is far more inexpensive.

I have recently also contacted some art blogs to see, if they want to showcase my work. Haven't heard back yet. I was featured on arttree and the artnectar, and vecu magazine in april... I am not sure, if that got me more traffic to my store, but it did to my website.

Basically I don't know a sure way to make this work, but I'll keep at it and let you know, when I find something, that really works. I do like to trade though ;)
